Time for a bit of geography!
Did you know that…
Ollaire rock is found around Bocheresse near Fionnay and is used to make the stone ovens, called Bagnards. The stone was first discovered in 1800 but it is slowly running out and so the ovens are becoming more and more scarce.
If you’re feeling energetic, why not take a guide and visit the area near Bonatchiesse where the Ollaire Rock is to be found?
Visit the Maison de la Pierre Ollaire in Champsec to discover more about this special rock and all the things it has been used for from Roman times up to now.
Every month we’ll be posting a fact about the Valais and Switzerland; particularly useful for those applying for their Swiss passport.
