Our favourite festivals this summer

Montreux Jazz; 29 June – 14 July

Every year, one week before the festival starts, my sister presents me with a CD of the songs I need to learn ready for the concerts; it’s just not the same if you can’t sing along! This year, we’re off to see Rag’n’Bone Man, The Vaccines, Iggy Pop and Jamiroquai so I’ve got my work cut out for me!

We love it though. Nowhere else in the world do you get quite so close to your favourite bands, and the atmosphere along the lakeside is always buzzing with all the free concerts and food stands from around the world (as well as the obligatory melted cheese, of course!)

If you’re going to see Zucchero on Saturday, please, please sing along loudly for me!

Sion Sous les Etoiles; 11-15 July

There’s also an impressive line up in Sion this year from Wednesday 11th to Sunday 15th July. This is one of our favourite concert venues, surrounded by the mountains. Listen to the music whilst relaxing on the grass eating a picnic or enjoying the food from the various stands around the stage – you definitely feel like you’re on your summer holidays.

Verbier Festival; 29 July – 5 August

We love Verbier around festival time, especially if the weather’s good! The town hums with visitors and musicians from around the world and the cafés, bars and restaurants all join in by hosting various free musical events throughout the day and evening. As well as the more traditional classical music, there’s always one that’s a bit off-piste. This year, Rosi and Emma are particularly looking forward to Al McKay’s Earth, Wind and Fire Experience on 28th July.

Rock Oz’Arènes; Avenches; 15 – 18 August

Probably one of the most impressive festivals thanks to its venue, the amphitheatre in Avenches comes alive during Rock Oz’Arènes. The old town is beautiful and walking through it to get to the amphitheatre takes you back in time. Eléonore’s off to see James Blunt on the Wednesday but there’s a great line-up including Texas and Stereophonics.
